Paralegal (Patent/Litigation)

Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks talented Paralegal (Patent/Litigation) on behalf of our client, a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, very organized and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Paralegal will manage cases and documents, perform factual research and maintain documents and databases. Based in Washington, D.C., this position offers competitive compensation package.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with attorneys on client billable projects, including:
    organization and management of case documents, both written and electronic, maintaining case calendars, research, cite-checking and/or filing of legal briefs and memoranda, preparation of forms and applications.
  • May act as a liaison between attorneys and clients; Trains assistants under his/her supervision in procedures and practice for projects.
  • Provides written performance appraisals for assistants and support staff under his/her supervision.
  • At the request of the Director of Legal Support, interviews candidates for Project Assistant positions within the Firm.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by attorneys and/or the Director of Legal Support.

Qualifications:

  • Four year college degree (science preferred).
  • Preferred paralegal certificate and/or related experience.
  • Experience in performing detailed cite-checking, electronic filings, research and data analysis under the supervision of attorneys (e.g. LEXIS/Westlaw, Internet, factual research at government agencies and courts, investigative fact-gathering, etc.);
  • Proofreading, familiarity with Court/Agency rules and procedures, case management, including developing document management systems using electronic databases (Concordance, Summation), developing and following coding protocols, digesting and preparing written summaries of materials, preparation of supporting materials for depositions and trial;
  • Supervisory and training delegation skills;
  • Consistent demonstration of growth in substantive skills and knowledge of practice area.

Paralegal (International Trade)

Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks talented Paralegal (International Trade), on behalf of our client, a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm. The successful candidate will be highly-motivated, enthusiastic and fastidious. Must possess the ability to multi-task, coordinate work flow and meet deadlines. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with paralegal certificate and/or related experience; background in science and/or litigation with case management and trial experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in electronic filings, research and data analysis conducted under the supervision of attorneys (e.g. proofreading, familiarity with Court/Agency rules and procedures, case management, including developing document management systems using electronic databases (Concordance, Summation).
  • xperience performing cite-checking for the Department of Commerce, the International Trade Commission and Court of Federal Claims.
  • Familiarity with APO regulations and requirements of Day One and Day Two filings; developing and following coding protocols, preparing written summaries of all support materials for depositions and trial
  • Excellent computer (MS Word, Excel, databases) and research skills.\Proficiency using case management and trial support software i.e. Concordance, Summation, IPRO or Trial Director.
  • Ability to effectively manage both cases and documents, perform factual research and maintain documents and databases.

Senior Paralegal

The Senior Paralegal will manage cases and documents, perform factual research and maintain documents and databases.   • At attorney's direction, may act as a liaison between attorneys and clients;
  • Trains assistants under his/her supervision in procedures and practice for projects;
  • Provides written performance appraisals for assistants and support staff under his/her supervision;
  • At the request of the Director of Legal Support, interviews candidates for Project Assistant positions within the Client firm;
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum four year college degree;
  • Experience managing litigation cases from complaint through trial;
  • Experience in performing detailed cite-checking, electronic filings, research and data analysis under the supervision of attorneys (e.g. LEXIS/Westlaw, Internet, factual research at government agencies and courts, investigative fact-gathering, etc.);
  • Proofreading, familiarity with Court/Agency rules and procedures, case management, including developing document management systems using electronic databases (Concordance, Summation), developing and following coding protocols, digesting and preparing written summaries of materials, preparation of supporting materials for depositions and trial;
  • Supervisory and training delegation skills; Experience working with and supervising outside vendors and contractors;
  • Consistent demonstration of growth in substantive skills and knowledge of practice areas.
