An expanding law firm in Fairfax, VA has a FULLTIME opening for a legal assistant. This is not a summer job. Legal assistants are responsible for answering phones, tracking all incoming and outgoing information for the firm, and assisting the senior legal assistant. Overview of Responsibilities:
Provides secretarial support to assigned attorneys and/or assigned professionals within the Intellectual Property practice group.

Clears daily docket and notifying Docket Clerk/Specialist of any inaccuracies.

Reviews attorneys’ dockets for accuracy and to make sure due dates are met.
Prepares documents to support timekeepers which may include transcribing from dictation, drafts, handwritten notes or oral instruction, redlining and proofreading end product.
Drafts standard correspondence, memoranda and other documents.
Proofreads all work including correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents.
Reads, sorts and associates incoming mail with files and ensures that outgoing mail is sent on time.
Utilizes formats and terminology that are provided by the firm.
Creates and maintains filing system and databases to ensure accurate and efficient retrieval of data.
Keeps all files up-to-date and organized.
Opens new files, and maintains all client and general files. Prepare files to be closed.
Utilizes USPTO and other related government agency electronic resources effectively.
Processes invoices; proofs billing statements and other related billing documents; reviews and edits bills.
As necessary, searches appropriate databases for patent and trademark technical literature.
Prepares report letters to clients and billing as needed.
Provides back up support to other team members as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Detailed knowledge of patent and trademark filing requirements and regulations to prepare and complete U.S. Patent and Trademark Office “USPTO” filings and other related documents.
