We are currently seeking a talented and hard-working Paralegal to provide support to our Practice Support department. Overview of Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be an integral member of a talented Practice Support team. The following is an overview of the responsibilities for this position. The selected candidate will have ample opportunity to gain new skills and an expanded role as they demonstrate proficiency.

  • Organize, manage and update client files and pleadings.
  • Review and analyze client files, data and documents to assist in the investigation of facts and allegations involved in discovery.
  • Assist with preparing documents for production and witness files, to be used at depositions or trial.
  • Draft, edit and proofread cover letters, administrative memos, and Word documents.
  • Provide data entry support on litigation databases and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Perform various searches in litigation databases.
  • Assist in maintenance of practice group document libraries.
  • Schedule and track depositions, filing deadlines, etc.
  • Index and summarize documents and depositions.
  • Coordinate discovery and/or filings with courts or government agencies.
  • Perform basic legal and factual research (including hard copy and on-line).
  • Cite check, shepardize and proofread pleadings, briefs and other documents as required by practice group and case team.
  • Assist with creation of privilege logs.
  • Prepare trial, witness or briefing notebooks.
  • Assist at hearings, trials and/or client meetings.
  • Provide direction and guidance to project assistants assigned to case team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Self-motivated and analytical.
  • Moderate knowledge of relevant area of law (e.g. litigation, IP, environmental).
  • Basic knowledge and skills to cite check under the supervision of a more senior paralegal.
  • Strong attention to detail, including superior spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Concordance, Ringtail, LiveNote and Summation.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with attorneys and clients.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Records management skills.
  • Moderate typing skills.

Additional Essential Responsibilities:

  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to be mobile to and from work and within Firm work spaces.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and outside parties.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to permit performance of job functions enumerated above.
  • Ability to travel or work overtime as necessary.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • One to five years related paralegal work experience.

Department of Justice LAW CLERK Opportunity

We have a select number of immediate opportunities as a law clerk working with a large government integrator in the Department of Justice. It is walking distance from the metro station, and requires a US Citizen with a Juris Doctorate able to pass a background check. You will get a chance to work directly with client attorneys and special agents on a high-profile project during trial and pre-trial assisting with presentations and trial exhibits. There will be some document review as well as drafting briefs, motions, and memoranda's of law. Litigation experience is preferred, as is experience with Westlaw and Lexis.

The Office of Immigration Litigation, U.S. Department of Justice, is looking for a paralegal and legal assistant. These are ideal entry-level positions for someone who wants to explore a career in the federal government or gain practical legal experience prior to law school. The Civil Division is the largest litigating component in the Department of Justice, representing over 100 federal agencies in complex, high-profile civil litigation. The Office of Immigration Litigation is a fast-paced and busy office, with jurisdiction over all civil immigration litigation. The office is responsible for the nationwide coordination of immigration matters before the federal district courts and circuit courts of appeals. The selected individuals will be assigned to one of the office’s litigation teams, working directly with a team of lawyers and other legal professionals. The candidates will conduct factual and legal research, analyze legal documents and administrative records, draft legal documents, and support the office’s rapidly growing litigation.

Qualifications: The candidate should have excellent research skills and analytical ability. The successful candidate should also have strong oral and written communication skills and organizational ability. The applicant should be able to multi-task, respond to last-minute requests, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Selected candidate must undergo a pre-employment background check and drug test. Previous legal, foreign language, immigration, or international experience a plus, but not required. BA/BS and high GPA a plus. U.S. citizenship required.

Salary & Promotion Potential: Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The range is $31,751 (GS-5) through $39,330 (GS-7). In addition to promotion potential (subject to satisfactory performance), the government offers annual pay adjustments.
