Legal Assistant with Public Interest Legal Organization

The Partnership for Civil Justice invites applications for a Legal Assistant to work in Washington, D.C. The position will provide support to attorneys handling complex constitutional rights litigation matters including First Amendment litigation, civil rights and anti-discrimination cases, economic justice issues and defense of targeted communities and political organizations and activists. www.JusticeOnline.org

Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and filing of a variety of legal documents, including memoranda, pleadings, briefs, motions, court forms, petitions, subpoenas and discovery materials;
- Maintain and organize extensive paper and computer files in office;
- Coordinate and schedule attorneys’ litigation calendars;
- Answer incoming calls, respond to general inquiries, telephone liason with co-counsel, opposing counsel, clients and clerks of court;
- Compose routine correspondence;
- Review briefs for proper formatting, including proper legal citation form;
- Use legal software for document management/organization and presentation (prior experience not required, but computer facility is);
- Review computer-maintained documents, video and audio recordings and evidence, prepare exhibits, assist with exhibit management in depositions or trial;
- Assist attorneys with legal and other research, as requested, such as cite checking, telephoning sources of information, using off-site libraries, and internet and computer records searches;
- Occasional need for off-site tasks, such as document review or attendance at depositions;
- Word processing and other clerical duties as required.

Qualifications
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent document and records management/organization ability;
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
- Excellent ability to proofread documents;
- Typing proficiency to create documents in a timely manner;
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, including occasional evenings and weekends;
- Self-motivated and ability to multi-task
- Ability to set/change priorities according to deadline requirements and scheduling needs;
- Willingness and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Administrative experience in an office setting with a high volume of paper flow preferred

Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience and not-for-profit public interest work. Benefits include fully paid health insurance and ample vacation and sick leave policies.

U.S. Department of Justice, Vaccine Litigation Paralegal

Job Description: This is an ideal entry-level position for someone with a science background who wants to explore a career in the law and gain practical experience prior to law school. The Civil Division is the largest litigating component in the Department of Justice, representing over 100 federal agencies in complex civil litigation. In simplest terms, we are the “Government's Lawyer.”

This specific position is within the Office of Vaccine Litigation within the Constitutional and Specialized Torts section of the Torts Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing factual, legal, and medical literature research in assigned cases; analyzing and evaluating scientific and medical information, including medical records, and preparing draft memoranda; drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs; communicating with medical experts; organizing and writing synopses for use by attorneys; drafting correspondence; verifying citations and legal references on prepared legal documents; providing assistance in preparation for hearings, monitoring cases, and performing other duties as assigned. A two-year commitment is required.

Job Qualifications: Four-year college degree required. The office is particularly interested in candidates with solid science backgrounds and course work. Strong work ethic. Research and analytical ability. Computer literate. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Previous legal experience or scientific background a plus. U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED!

Salary: $37,640 (GS-7) with promotion potential. In addition to promotion potential (subject to satisfactory performance), the government offers annual pay adjustments.

Long-Term Document Review

Lexolution seeks DC Admitted attorneys for a six month minimum document review project, beginning on Tuesday, November 6.
The hours offered will be a minimum of 60, and maximum of 70 per week. The rate is $35/hour plus time and one half for overtime. A six month commitment is required, and Lexolution pays a completion bonus. Minimal conflicts history is preferred. Weekend hours are required at least until February.
