Paralegal Testimonials

PIW was a fast paced school; not for the faint of heart and very helpful for getting one ready for their first career or their second depending on where one is in their life. As someone who is extremely interested in attending law school in the near future, PIW certainly helped confirm my interested in the law and what it takes to work in the real work in the “real world” as a legal professional. I would recommend PIW to anyone who is not afraid of committing themselves to hard work and total commitment in learning about the legal profession.

I enjoyed my experience at PIW because I was able to learn new and exciting things and also
meet new and exciting people. I was very impressed with the professor’s level of knowledge in the subjects that were teaching. I really enjoyed the class interaction especially during the practicum when we were told to form small groups and work together. With PIW I really got a feel for what type of work I would like to do in the future.

I enjoyed my experience at PIW because it wasn’t just sitting down and taking everything in, PIW gave you hands on interaction and the teachers were great. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone who is interested in paralegal. I gained more knowledge in seven months than I did with 8 years of community college.

PIW offered what other programs and/or colleges did not offer, which was the exploration of various areas of law. Although I have completed the paralegal course I still have access to the job search tools if I decide to try a different area of law. I think that the creation of the PIW forum for students and alumni’s was an awesome idea. As a PIW student or graduate you have the ability to check job listings and chat with current students and alumni.

"I enjoyed my experience at PIW because the class schedule was convenient. Most individuals work between the hours of 9 to 5. Having class once a week was great.

The instructors were awesome. Each instructor managed to keep my attention throughout the entire lecture. I was able to get involved in the discussions and ask questions and follow along without taking a lot of notes. PIW provided a great book with the notes and grammar book is fantastic. The book is one I will use at home and in the office.

The internship experience through PIW was great. I was placed in a warm, professional, and friendly environment. Ms. Wilbon has extended an invitation which will allow me to come in on Saturdays and learn more."

"I have very much enjoyed the work and experience here at PIW. After debating about this program for such a very long time, I am very happy I finally took the step. For me, the program was ideal because it allowed me to work at my own pace. PIW staff members were always available, but it was really up to me, the student, how well and how fast I progressed. I was pleasantly surprised at the job placement assistance given by PIW. Many programs make the claim, but don't really follow through. "My experience with PIW has been enriching and invaluable.  Every facet of the program has shaped and honed my skills as a paralegal.  I was very impressed that lawyers instructed our lectures.  They were very knowledgeable  in their field of expertise, personable, and open to questions.  The instructor's diverse background enhanced the classroom as well as to the paralegal program.

The staff are wonderful.  Robin Browder was a delightful instructor.  She ensured the lectures were clear, precise and that we were all on the same page.  Robin has been a tremendous asset in providing me insight to the field of law, working as a paralegal  and law school.   Erin was a great facilitator.  She was flexible in all aspects of the program.   Amy is wonderful, she has worked diligently and expeditiously in placing me with an internship.  Which was a wonderful internship, I must add.  She has been dynamic in keeping me abreast of jobs, sending out my resume to potential firms and always being available.

Amy, Erin and Robin, were very instrumental in my success in completing the PIW program with a solid foundation and marketable skills.  And for this, I thank you.  PIW keep up the good work!"

"The Paralegal Institute of Washington, D.C. is a lifesaver! I was trapped in a career where I was under-appreciated and very unhappy, but PIW turned that all around. By making the decision to invest in my future, I have greatly improved all aspects of my life. I am lucky enough to have secured a position in a renowned family law practice in my hometown where I am respected and trusted in the highest regard. In less than three months, I will be the sole paralegal for two lawyers in a mid-size law firm and the case manager of more than fifty clients. I could not have done any of this without the help of PIW.

By no means do I want to imply that PIW is the easy route to a successful future. The PIW program is designed to allow its students to get as much, or as little, out of it as they put in. One must have extreme diligence and discipline to get all of the work done professionally in a timely manner, but the PIW staff is there for constant support. Erin Pollock guides all students through the entire classroom and independent study portion of the course. Amy Taylor is there to answer any general questions about the program or the student internship. They are both so easy to get along with and truly do not mind answering any questions that anyone has, and they will relentlessly support the student in his or her search for the perfect career.

The lawyers who lecture for PIW are fantastic. They enjoy teaching about their areas of expertise and are glad to answer individual questions. At the conclusion of each lecture, it is easy to feel as if one knows the lawyer on a friendly level. The course binder that is produced by PIW is a great research tool that I still refer back to. PIW has carefully chosen all of the texts and they are all very useful in the future career of a paralegal. Overall, PIW is a valuable investment well worth making."

"I enjoyed my experience at PIW because of the way the majority of the teachers held my attention, particularly Robin Browder. The areas of law that I was introduced to opened up a whole new legal world for me. Now hearing certain legal terms, I will understand what is being said. PIW reduces 2-3 years of schooling to 8 to 10 weeks. With their flexible schedule, PIW had two different ways you could take to complete the internship requirement. In doing this, I really thought they had real consideration for their students' time and schedules. It is a school that I would highly recommend."

"I enjoyed my experience at PIW because it was a great opportunity to learn more about the career field I had become interested in. I had heard of PIW through my sister, who had also attended. I felt that the classes were easy paced and very simple to understand. The attorneys were great at explaining their area of practice. It was educational but also fun. The individual assignments that we did were particularly attention grabbing. Being able to search for answers and learn about new subjects such as wills, or the Freedom of Information Act was fun. It just shows how much is out there and that the law is very important. I enjoyed my time here, and I learned a lot and would recommend this school to others."

The teachers and assistants who work for the Paralegal Institute really amazed me, because they give you so much personal attention. I could see this through all the good comments and constructive feedback on my evaluations, assignments, quizzes and personal conversations. And they always were available to talk to me and give me advice.

Listen, the homework assignments weren't easy. I did homework almost every single night. And the take-home project was challenging. But all of this helped me learn, and if someone is dedicated, he or she can do it too!

I am really sure that because of this program I will find a great job. I'm ready and I have the knowledge now."

I performed my internship at Wilbon & Associates and they were very pleased with my work performance. They asked me to stay on throughout the summer and I agreed. Hi Mimi and Wayne --
Just wanted to say thank you for all of your help with school and with relocating here to the Miami, Florida area. I first I was a little scared because of my age and going back to school but you all were great and I was able to retain everything I learned in class.
I started my internship in May and after only four days the company made me a job offer and I start on payroll Monday!!! WOW!!!!!
I am very happy here and the experience that I am gaining is priceless. I have worked on litigation cases, sat in on three hearings and two depositions, requested medical records from doctors, conducted client interviews and so much more.
Thank you for all the preparation because it really paid off.
Thank you once again.

--Dannelle, March 2004

After a fruitless search for a paralegal position in the Washington DC metropolitan area, I decided to abandon the conventional means of looking for a job and try something else. That is when I discovered the paralegal program at PIW.

I am delighted that it was one of the wisest decisions I have made in my life. Through this program I was able to secure a job at a DC law firm. I owe a debt of gratitude to the staff of PIW for their hard work and genuine interest in my dreams. The assistance I received from you significantly changed my life and I wish to express my profound appreciation to all of you!

--Michael, January 2004

My experience at Paralegal Institute of Washington, D.C. (PIW) was rewarding and beneficial. I have learned so much from this program. At the time I enrolled in this program, I was already pursuing a Certificate in Paralegal Studies at the University of Maryland, University College. What interested me the most about this program was the opportunity to do the correspondence work and the internship. Moreover, the program exposed me to various areas of law in just two weeks. I was able to grasp a lot of material by their methods of teaching and practical work. Mr. Wayne Cohen and Mimi Dennis are excellent teachers. Their methods of teaching, usage of analogies and practical works made the subject more interesting and easy to understand.

The major difference that I have found between this program and my school is that I have learned almost the same material in just four weeks in this program as opposed to one year of school. Moreover, this program provided correspondence work like assignments in all areas of the law, job interview advice, and field trips to the courthouse, which was an excellent exercise. This really prepared me prior to stepping my foot in the legal arena.

Lastly, I have found this program’s job placement an excellent way to step my foot into the legal field. Prior to enrolling in this program, I had applied to a myriad of jobs but was unlucky to find even a single job in the legal field. However, after completing this program and successfully finishing my four-week internship, I was offered a position in the same law firm I interned at. I have to mention this that when I started my internship and was assigned duties and tasks like interrogating clients, going to court to file a case, researching, I found everything so easy because of this program. This program is like a “Training Class” that provides “to-be-paralegals” with all the necessary material that they need to know to perform in the real world of the legal field.

In conclusion, I really want to thank the whole staff for their help and support in making me successful in my career. This program has a lot of useful information that will prepare one to be a successful paralegal. This program was worth paying for, and I am glad I made a smart move. I would highly recommend this program to other people, and I wish you all luck in the future.

My name is Bridget and I attended the December 8th class in 2003. I was nervous before taking the class that 8 weeks was not enough time to become a paralegal especially since did not have any prior office experience or any experience in the area of law. After the first two weeks and 4 classes I already had an understanding of what a lot of the general laws were and how to carry out almost any paralegal task that was asked of me.

During the two weeks of independent study following the classes I felt prepared and very aware of what exactly I needed to do. The last four weeks were my internship. After only four weeks I was working as a paralegal on my first day of my internship at a law firm. By the end of the four weeks I had already been offered a job with the firm I was interning with. The Paralegal Institute of Washington was the best move I could have made towards a career!

--Bridget, December 2003

I would like to thank you for placing me at one of the top immigration firms in Washington, D.C. I could not have asked for a more well-matched internship. The tips received and lessons learned in your course, with regards to hard work and diligence, assisted me in being so successful during my month log placement that I was offered a position with the firm even before my internship officially ended.

During the course, I found the out of class assignments helpful in determining which fields of law I would like to focus upon. I also enjoyed the concise format of the course. After only a few months of intense focused and fortitude, The Paralegal Institute of Washington, D.C., gave me the necessary skills to begin my career as a legal assistant.

The knowledge acquired in your course has contributed to my professional growth and success and I enthusiastically recommend the Paralegal Institute of Washington, D.C. without reservation.

--Rebecca, March 2004

October 30, 2003: “After my internship I slowly started to look for work. I went to drop off my resume in person for a job in your building and was interviewed, without warning, and offered the job on the spot! I had only heard of that happening through your course. I know if I had not followed Mr. Cohen’s advice to always have copies of my resume and references with me, and drop off resumes in person, I would not have a job today. I always thought some of his ideas were a little far fetched, I don’t anymore!”

--Kathryn, October 2003

October 21, 2003: “Before I decided to pursue a career in the Paralegal field, I was lost, confused and disappointed with my chosen field of study from my undergraduate studies. . . .Paralegal Institute helped me realize that all of the skills that I already had from my previous management positions and the retail industry were transferable. For example, attention to detail and customer service skills are a prerequisite for being an effective food service manager. Attention to detail and client relations are a necessary as a paralegal.”

--Mark, October 2003

October 10, 2003: “Thank God you offered this course to me. I would not think that in a million years I would have a job like this. My job is rewarding and also pays good money. . . .I started the program at 18 and now I have a job that 25 year old students would kill for. This program will help you succeed, as well as have fun.”

--Richelle, October 2003

September 3, 2003: “Because of the service you provide, I was given the opportunity to not only “get a job” but to have a career. Thank you!”

--Angelita, July 2003

August 1, 2003: “Thank you for the little speech yesterday. It was inspiring. I was so happy to see all of the other people who were in my class with varying degrees of experience obtained. The [people] were all so excited to be completing this phase of their lives, as was I. I have come so far and fought so hard up to this point. You have taught me how to use that aggressive style to my benefit.”
