Description
“Learning” Bluebook Citations is a matter of knowing where the information is located in the Bluebook, practice, more practice and memorization. This workshop is intended for those who want to master Cite Checking in compliance with the format of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (Columbia Law Review Ass’n et. al.)
You will learn the common system of citation expressed in the Bluebook rules. While the Bluebook rules provide the basis for all legal citation, many states have altered the forms used. It is important that you understand how to apply the state alterations.
Workshop Objectives
Specifically, the workshop is designed to sharpen the Paralegal’s cite-checking skills in order to make cite-checking a more comprehensible and efficient undertaking. You will be able to:
- properly form citations to legal resources using The Bluebook rules of citation;
- know when and where citations must be used in written legal material.
Assignments
The workshop involves assignments to be completed outside of class and others in class. Assignments serve as the basis for class discussion and peer-review.
To learn the rules of legal citation, you will complete six, outside/HW, citation assignments in which you are given the references to cite and are expected to prepare the correct legal citation for each. These assignments focus on citing statutes, cases, and other sources including books, periodicals, and constitutions. |
